Planning improvements
Since our public meeting we have been working on the cycle improvements document for the district. This will be an update on work originally done in 2007 identifying those small improvements that make a big difference.

Sunday 26th September, 12.00 - 3.00pm

Come and join in the car-free festivities in St Peters Street
12 until 3pm.
We have 2 town cycle rides planned, plus mass cycle rides down St Peters Street. Additionally there will be fun games and competitions and demonstrations from cycle trainers.
Dr Bike will be there to help with any maintenance issues, plus try-outs of pedal and electric bikes.
This event suits all ages, so bring along family and friends - with your bike, trike, skateboard or go-kart - anything human powered!

Cyclists’ Touring Club ‘Five Miles to Fabulous’ WOMEN ONLY. Gently paced ride using quiet roads and the Alban Way and other cycle routes. Start from Morrisons, Hatfield Road - meet at the cycle stands below the canopy. Contact Rona*

Visit STACC’s market stall in St Albans for leaflets, route maps, the new St Albans Cycle Map and items for sale and giveaways. Our well known rickshaw will also be there!
Sun 20 June, 10.30-13.30
Join Dave’s ride along a quiet and easy route to Stanborough Lakes, Welwyn Garden City. Meet on the Alban Way, at the crossing with Sutton Road near Morrisons. This is an easy 14-16 mile ride, finishing at the pub in Sleapshyde. Note: No unaccompanied children; bikes should be roadworthy and riders competent on roads. Contact Dave*

Either to Hexton, with lunch at the Raven, approx 35 miles return trip, moderate pace, or Tewin, with lunch at the Rose and Crown, approx 20 miles return trip, easy pace. Invitation to non-members to join Cyclists’ Touring Club escorted evening bike ‘meander’ on rural roads, approx 15 miles at an easy pace, meeting at the War Memorial in St Peters Street (by the Blacksmiths Arms) for a 19.30 start, concluding at the White Lion in Sopwell Lane. Invitation to join a short escorted social ride (under 10 miles total) with the 40 Plus Cycle Club from the Green Man in Sandridge, meeting at 11-00 for coffee followed by a gentle ride to the Elephant a Castle at Amwell for lunch, and return. Contact Doug*

STACC invite all to share escorted easy paced family rides of around 5 miles, on largely traffic-free routes, from the Earthworks site in Hixberry Lane, GR 179068, returning for light refreshments in the delightful gardens at Earthworks. Contact Doug*

The STACC family ride to Shenley Park, leaving the Highfield Park car park, off Hill End Lane, opposite Frobisher Road GR 172061. Approx 11-12 miles, some contour. Largely traffic free or quiet roads. Fine playspace and cafeteria at Shenley. Contact Doug*

The Cyclists’ Touring Club invite you to share a moderate pace escorted ride of 100 km (62 miles) in NE Herts, shared with the 40 Plus Club. This is a charity event (with a £5 charge) Coffee and lunch appointments, but a picnic tea is proposed. Meet at the East Lane car park, Wheathamstead (by the Bull).
