Did you know?

  • Cycling at least 20 miles a week reduces the risk of coronary heat disease to less than half of that for non-cyclists (BHF)
  • If one third of all short car journeys were made by cycle, national heart disease rates would decrease by between 5% and 10% (Bikes not Fumes - CTC)
  • Road transport is responsible for over 25% of the UK's Carbon Dioxide emissions, affecting the global climate and a major public health threat (WHO 1996)
  • Cycling is the most energy-efficient form of transport, 70x less energy than the average car.
  • On a bike you can travel up to 644 miles on the equivalent energy of 1 litre of petrol!
  • 25% of Hull's road network now has speedlimit of 20mph. They have seen a 56% reduction in collisions, with a 90% reduction in serious and fatal injury collisions. (CTC news 9-2006).
